Product Description

Professional 1000/6000 Whetstone Set

Stop struggling with dull steel. Our Professional Whetstone Set is the definitive tool for maintaining the sharpness of your high-carbon blades. Expertly curated to complement our Master Forge, this dual-grit stone works in perfect tandem with our Blade Care Kit to ensure your steel remains a lifelong companion.

What’s in the Kit?

  • Dual-Grit Water Stone: A 1000-grit side for repairing edges and a 6000-grit side for mirror-polish honing.

  • Non-Slip Bamboo Base: Handcrafted wood base with a rubber gasket to ensure a stable, safe sharpening surface.

  • Precision Angle Guide: Takes the guesswork out of sharpening by maintaining the perfect 15–20 degree angle.

  • Nagura (Dressing Stone): Essential for cleaning the whetstone surface and creating a high-performance sharpening slurry.

  • Universal Application: Optimized for high-carbon steel, kitchen cutlery, and outdoor tools.

The Art of the Whetstone

Precision sharpening is a ritual - something highly valued by Viking Age Scandinavians, which we see evidenced in the Sagas - and our dual-grit whetstone is your canvas. The 1000-grit side is your workhorse, designed to sharpen dull edges and remove minor nicks from frequent use. Once the edge is set, flip to the 6000-grit side to hone the steel to a razor-like finish. This professional-grade water stone is essential for any owner of Hand-Forged Viking Knives who values a clean, effortless cut.

Stability and Precision for Every Blade

We’ve included a non-slip bamboo base to ensure your stone stays anchored to the bench, providing the safety needed for heavy sharpening sessions. For those new to the art of the whetstone, the included knife sharpening angle guide ensures professional results every time, maintaining the exact edge profile required for Hand-Forged Viking Axes and utility tools alike.

The Nagura Stone: Maintenance for Your Tools

This set features a Nagura (Dressing Stone), a vital accessory often overlooked. Use the Nagura to clean the surface of your whetstone, removing metal particles and creating a "slurry" that aids in the sharpening process. This ensures your stones remain flat and effective, even after sharpening a heavy Viking Seax or a full set of ironwork.

How to Forge a Razor Edge: Quick Start Guide

Sharpening with a water stone is a skill every Norse craftsman had to master and you should too! Follow these steps to restore your blade:

  • Soak the Stone: Submerge your 1000/6000 stone in water for 10–15 minutes until the bubbles stop. Keep a small spray bottle handy to keep the surface wet during use.

  • Set Your Angle: Use the included Precision Angle Guide to lock in a 15–20 degree angle. For a traditional Viking Seax, a consistent, steady hand is key.

  • The Sharpening Phase: Start on the 1000-grit (blue) side. Using light, even pressure, stroke the blade across the stone. Use the Nagura stone to maintain a clean slurry for maximum efficiency.

  • The Honing Phase: Once a "burr" (a tiny metal lip) forms, flip to the 6000-grit (white) side. Repeat the process with lighter strokes to polish the edge to a sharp mirror finish.

  • Clean & Dry: Rinse your stone and let it air-dry completely before storing it in the bamboo base. Never store a wet stone in a closed box!

Building a Long Lasting Kit

A warrior is only as good as their tools. By investing in professional-grade maintenance, you are ensuring your collection—from your primary weapons to your Hand-Forged Viking Spears—remains battle-ready and pristine. High-carbon steel is a living material; treat it with respect, and it will never fail you.

From the Bench to the Hall

After the work of the whetstone is done and your steel is polished, take a moment to appreciate the craft. There is a meditative peace in sharpening that is best followed by a pour of Traditional Honey Mead. Set down your stone, raise your blade, and toast to the sharpest edge in the hall.
