Our hand-forged Jarl's fire strikers are made from high-carbon steel and are in keeping with archaeological finds throughout Viking Age Scandinavia.

What is a Fire Striker?

Fire strikers are pieces of carbon steel that are struck by a piece of flint (or similar rock) with the purpose of making sparks for fire making. These would have been a staple piece of everyday life for those living in the Viking Age, and examples have been found since the advent of steel.

The sharp edge of the flint is used to violently strike the fire steel at an acute angle in order to cleave or shave off small particles of metal. The sparks created can then be used to ignite the tinder.

Each piece is handmade, and there may be some small variations.
